"Red Hot Chili Peppers, London, 22 February 1988; photographed for the music paper, Melody Maker. I took this image backstage before a gig at the Clarendon Ballroom in Hammersmith, the setup being based on a kind of mock crucifixion, (nothing blasphemous intended). Sadly, Chili's founding guitarist, Hillel Slovak died just 4 months after our shoot." - Phil Nicholls
